Admire the Muong Hoa valley, trekking through ethnic villages of Y Linh Ho, Lao Chai and Ta Van
At approximately 06:00, we will arrive in Lao Cai. Your driver will be waiting to take you on a 45-minute drive by private car from Lao Cai Station to Sapa. Enjoy a local breakfast at a restaurant, then prepare for trekking.
Begin your exploration of Muong Hoa Valley. Follow the main road heading south for about an hour before turning right onto a footpath descending into Muong Hoa Valley. This section offers spectacular views of the highest part of the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, and on a clear day, you can see Fansipan Peak. Cross the river via a suspension bridge and challenge yourself with an uphill trek to Y Linh Ho village. Here, visit some H’mong families and observe their daily activities.
After lunch, the trail continues up and down for about 2 hours until you reach Lao Chai, a large H’mong village. Then, follow the riverbank to Ta Van village of the Zay people. Visit local homes and village schools to enjoy a cultural discovery of the local ethnic communities and the breathtaking scenery of Muong Hoa Valley. Settle down in Ta Van village for an overnight homestay.
Enjoy dinner at the local homestay.
Leaving Ta Van village to Giang Ta Chai; Trekking through ethnic villages; Visit Hau Thao village; Back Lao Cai station
After breakfast, leave Ta Van village and take the uphill trail, passing by fascinating terraced rice fields and small H’mong hamlets before entering a bamboo forest leading to a waterfall. Take a break to enjoy the magnificent scenery, then continue walking for half an hour to reach Giang Ta Chai village of the Red Zao people, located atop a hill overlooking the Muong Hoa River.
Spend time visiting the village, befriending the Zao, and experiencing their hospitality. Cross the river via another suspension bridge and trek uphill again to Hau Thao village. Visit a local handicraft center where H’mong and Zao women gather to exchange experiences and skills in making handicrafts. Enjoy a late lunch near this center, then relax and prepare for the journey back to Lao Cai station for the overnight train back to Hanoi.
